Infortrend Enhances Entry-Level EonStor DS family with New 6gb/S Sas-Host Storage Systems

Enables SMBs to accommodate more application servers without large cost increases

Infortrend® (Public TPE: 2495), the networked storage expert, announced the availability of new 6Gb/s SAS-host storage systems in its entry-level EonStor DS family. Featuring four 6Gb/s SAS-host ports per controller, the new systems enable SMBs (Small and Medium Businesses) to accommodate more application servers without large cost increases.

Many SMBs prefer DAS configurations for their data storage due to these configurations’ excellent performance and easy deployment. However, with continuing data growth and increasing demands on business applications, SMBs are facing a challenge: How to meet their growing storage needs without adding large amounts of new storage hardware or abandoning the DAS configurations that have served them so well over the years?

With up to eight 6Gb/s SAS-host ports on a single EonStor DS system, SMB users are able to support up to eight servers in a non-HA (High Availability) configuration or four servers in a HA configuration. In the past, supporting this number of servers required at least two storage systems, meaning that with the newly announced EonStor DS systems users can significantly reduce the amount of storage hardware, while still meeting all their application needs.

The new EonStor DS systems include the following:

• EonStor DS S12S-R2240-4 and S12S-G2240-4: 2U form factor, single or dual controller, four 6Gb/s SAS-host ports per controller, 12 drive bays per system, expansion up to 84 disk drives.
• EonStor DS S16S-R2240-4 and S16S-G2240-4: 3U form factor, single or dual controller, four 6Gb/s SAS-host ports per controller, 16 drive bays per system, expansion up to 112 disk drives.
• EonStor DS S24S-G2240-4: 4U form factor, single controller, four 6Gb/s SAS host-ports per controller, 24 drive bays per system, expansion up to 104 disk drives.    

Besides Infortrend has recently announced that storage systems in the EonStor DS and EonNAS families now support 3TB disk drives. According to market research, managing data growth is one the major business challenges for SMBs and enterprises. Support for 3TB drives on storage systems enables SMBs and enterprises to manage data growth more efficiently.
